A great piece from Salvatore Bertocci, featured by Armorama.
KV II is a Soviet tank in World War II. It is distinctively different from other tanks of the era, with a very large boxed turret mounted on the chassis.
The turret house a 152mm Howitzer and is intended as a bombardment tank against fortified targets and infantry.
The tank saw success during the Winter War against the Finnish army in early World War II. However due to the huge size and weight of the turret, it suffers mechanically, functionally and performance wise as a result.
KV II was phased out in 1942 and the remaining tanks in service were converted to KV I. The German Army did capture and re-use them in their inventory. Which is depicted in this image.
