Airportable Landrover 1/24 Kit Form Services

The Landrover is a legend in the British military. Similar to the U.S. Jeep. It is used in all theatre of war and all branch of the military. Kit Form Services has released a 1/24 Landrover in its lightweight airportable version. Decals of the kit includes three operational units, Military Police, Parachute Regiment and Military Marines.

First place to start for me is the box, as this is stout, with the parts securely packed inside so it survived transit via regular mail without a problem.  That may sound simple but is actually a key ingredient to a good product these days, as more and more of us buy models via the internet and expect them to come to us in the post rather than picking them up from the shelf in a model shop and carrying them carefully home in our car.  The whole change in the way things are sold these days is of course a much bigger subject than I'll tackle here, but it makes it something I consider when reviewing things these days.
Inside the box, once all the polystyrene chips are out the way you find bags of metal and resin parts, plus others with transfer, rod, transfers and etch in them, along with the largest single casting, the main body shell.  Seeing this brings it home just how large even a small vehicle like the Lightweight are when you make them in 1/24.  The other aspect of the larger scale is the level of detail that is included in the basic kit.  In reference to the main casting, it is a first class example of resin moulding.  Not a blemish to be seen in this example, despite it involving some quite complex shapes for the one piece and the chassis moulded integrally with it.  It is also cast so that optional parts can be used to make either the early or late versions, depending on your preference.

You can read more about the kit in Military Modelling "Truck 4x4, Lightweight Airportable in 1/24". The article also includes a lot of great photos of the kit. Definitely worth checking out.
